History of Fashion
The term 'history of fashion' generally describes modern clothing since World War II. In ancient Greek and Roman times clothing was based on function. Loose clothing was worn and layered clothing was popular for both men and women. Overtime clothing became more modest with longer sleeves and hemlines.Clothing also became more colourful. During the Renaissance period women started to wear robes and showed more of their hair. Jewellery was also becoming more common. Voluminous skirts and high collars made a statement during this time.
During the Georgian period woman wore a corset known as 'eschelle stomacher.' This would have been decoratred with bows above the waistline and an embroidered petticoat below.
In the Victorian period dresses had several layers with several different colours.

Autumn/Winter 2013 fashion trends
Check, plaid and tartan is something everyone needs to invest in this season. Layer up a plaid dress with a black collar top underneath to create emphasis around the neckline.
Skirts with a definite hemline were a big feature of Spring/Summer 2013. This season skirts worn with a jumper or printed top are set to become popular.
Oversized coats are set to be big this season. In the winter most of your clothes will be covered up with coats so why not make a statment with an oversized coat.
For winter pink is the new black. It comes in dusty rose or berry.

What is fashion?
Fashion is any popular trend especially in clothing or footwear. Fashion helps to show who we are and tell others about our personality. Modern trends represent the conditions of society. The terms 'fashionable' and 'unfashionable' tell us whether something fits in with the current fashion trend.

How is Fashion related to Geography?
The main reason why fashion is linked to Geography is because of weather. People tend to wear darker and heavier clothing in cold climates while people tend to wear lighter and pale coloured clothing in warm climates.
